Five arrested for abusing England players in Euro 2020

Four people have already been arrested after they racially abused the England footballers during the Euro 2020 final defeat. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka have been targeted. The comments came after they missed the penalties in the Euro 2020 final.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts said that the abuse was very vile. He said, “If we identify that you are behind this crime, we will track you down, and you will face the serious consequences of your shameful actions.”

Police said a torrent of racist comments were targeting the dome of the black team players. They appeared on social media platforms on Sunday after the loss of England’s penalties to Italy in the final at Wembley.

The UK Football Policing Unit says that its team was working on a significant number of reports related to abuses. The local police forces have also made four arrests regarding the racist comments.

The Chief Constable Mark Roberts, National Police Chief’s Council football policing, says that the abuse was quite shocking for the people in the country. He continued, “Our England team have been true role models during the tournament, conducting themselves with professionalism and dignity. I’m disgusted that there are individuals out there who think it’s acceptable to direct such abhorrent abuse at them or anybody else.”

He said that the investigation would continue to find out the accused. Officers are also working closely with the social media platforms, which include Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. The manager of England, Gareth Southgate, says that the racist abuses are not at all tolerable.

Prime minister Boris Johnson said that he has promised to ban the guilty people. Especially the ones who are guilty of sending racial abuse to the footballers.

He said that he would work on cracking down on racism. The unit also said that as of 13 July, 897 football-related incidents along with 264 arrests in the country.
