A fitness club in Hualian has voluntarily closed its doors after a club member supposed to be in self-imposed quarantine swam in the club’s swimming pool last weekend.
The member in question had disembarked from the SuperStar Aquarius cruise ship in Keelung a day earlier before travelling down to Hualian.
Yet, despite a requirement for Taiwanese passengers aboard the cruise ship to self-quarantine for 14 days as announced by Minister of Health and Welfare, Chen Shih-chung in the wake of testing aboard the ship, the club member chose to visit the oceanfront Yawei fitness club the following day.
Recognized while in the club, the member was reportedly asked to leave the facilities.
Two days later the club voluntarily closed its doors and will remain shut until March 31st, after receiving over 100 calls from members worried about falling sick according to a report in the Taipei Times. During this time the club will disinfect all areas of the club.
Current regulations determined by the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on self-quarantine in Taiwan dictate that temperatures must be checked in the morning and at night, those in quarantine must avoid leaving their homes, and if absolutely necessary must wear surgical face masks at all times. Any person in self-quarantine, upon developing any respiratory symptoms or a fever, should all the CECC hotline on 1922 immediately.
No decision has been made as of yet on a possible penalty for the club member in question.
