Facebook to recruit 10,000 EU to develop metaverse

Facebook is now planning to hire 10000 people in the European Union to develop a metaverse. A metaverse comes in the form of an online world where people can play games, work, and communicate through a virtual environment. They can do it with the use of VR headsets.

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, is leading the voice on this concept. Their announcement is coming as Facebook deals with the fallout of a damaging scandal. It is now facing increased class for the regulations to further curb its influence.

“The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social, and economic opportunities. And Europeans will be shaping it right from the start,” Facebook said in a blog post.

The new jobs being created over the next five years will include “highly specialized engineers”.

While investing in the EU offers many advantages. It includes access to a large consumer market with first-class universities and higher-quality talent. Facebook is making building the metaverse one of its bigger priorities.

Despite the history of buying its rivals, Facebook is claiming that Metaverse won’t be built overnight through a single company. Also, it has promised to collaborate. It is recently investing $50m in non-profit funding groups. It will help to build the metaverse quite responsibly.

But the true idea of the metaverse will take another 10 -15 years. Some critics say that this announcement is about to re-establish the reputation of the company and will divert attention from the damaging scandals.

It includes a revelation from the whistleblower Frances Haugen. She has also worked as a product manager on the civic integrity team of Facebook.

The Internal research of Facebook has found that Instagram was affecting the mental health of teenagers. But Facebook has not yet shared its findings when they suggested that the platform is a very toxic place for youngsters.
