Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party has a presidential primary which is scheduled to take place from June 10 until June 14. The chairman of Taiwanese Public Opinion foundation You Ying-lung feels that this is like “Russian roulette”. This was said in reference to the 1978 movie, The Deer Hunter, You said this on his Facebook page.
You’s exact words were that “The presidential primary has become a horrific game of Russian roulette that makes the poll results highly uncertain.” It is the first in the world for a primary to include cellphone users’ votes. And You believes that it is a campaign trick orchestrated by the Tsai Ing-wen in order to secure a primary win.
According to You, landline polling is more stable as well as cheaper and more accountable as opposed to cellphone polling. You also called out the media outlets who were claiming to poll both the cellphone as well as landline users in a 50:50 ratio. You feels that in reality, they were mostly using landline numbers.
You also claims that it is much more expensive to conduct cellphone polling because it has higher rates. As far as You’s political preference is concerned, he is a firm supporter of Tsai’s challenger who is William Lai. You is of the belief that the uncertainty of poll threatens survival of the Democratic Political Party.
