Donald Trump declined to provide answers to New York investigation

Mr. Trump is under investigation in New York. For misleading the authorities about the value of the assets under the Trump Organization.

The authorities accused Mr. Trump did so to receive favorable loans and tax concessions.

The former President of the United States had declined to answer any questions as a part of the investigation into his family business handling.

Further, Mr. Trump has gone to the courts to block any interviews regarding the ongoing investigations.

Mr. Trump also denies all the allegations levied against him by the State authorities.

New York authorities questioned Mr. trump under oath. He also released a statement criticizing the actions of the New York attorney general Letitia James. He also criticized the whole investigation as well.

“Years of work and tens of millions of dollars have been spent on this long-simmering saga, and to no avail,” he said. “I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

The office of the Attorney General confirmed that Mr. Trump denied answering questions under the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.

The office of the Attorney General gave a statement saying that they would continue investigating the case. Also, the investigation is still underway.

His disposition in the New York case comes days after the FBI raided his house in Florida.

The charges against Mr. Trump in the New York case are civil charges. But there is another case ongoing against him in Manhattan. So those charges might end up as criminal charges.

Analysts believe that Mr. Trump declined to answer the questions in the civil case because his testimony may be used against him in the criminal charges.

The questioning in New York lasted for about four hours. He began the answering by condemning the Attorney general and the whole investigation. For all the further questions, he replied, “same answer”.

Once the investigation is over, the attorney general can bring a lawsuit against Mr. Trump. The lawsuit could seek financial penalties from Mr. Trump.

The investigation against Mr. Trump was first opened in 2019. The case also seeks to prove that Mr. Trump and Trump Organization had misled authorities about the value of the assets to gain favorable loans and taxes.

Mr. Trump has supposedly called these investigations a witch hunt against him.
