Chinese President Xi made a phone call to Ukrainian President for peace talks

You must have noticed that the world is currently at a stage where no one is excited about the daily things in life which were not at all common just a few decades ago. For example, we used to get excited on getting a phone call just a decade ago but there is no such excitement nowadays and it has become our routine now that we don’t even answer calls most of the time that come from unknown numbers. The reason why we are talking about phone calls is because someone made a very important phone call to their counterpart yesterday.

This phone call was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and this is the first time that talks have been held between China and Ukraine ever since Russia invaded Ukraine 14 months ago. The significance of this phone call is such that there have been celebrations in Ukraine as people now believe that Chinese will become mediators in talks between Russia and Ukraine for peace. As per the Chinese readout of this phone call, China’s President Xi has told Zelensky that China will send a special delegation to Ukraine to hold peace talks with all parties and resolve the crisis.

The readout also mentioned Xi told Zelensy that “Amid the current rise of reasonable thinking and voices from all sides, we should seize the opportunity to build up favorable conditions for a political settlement of the crisis,”. Zelensky also took to Twitter to confirm the phone call with Chinese President and said that they both “had a long and meaningful conversation” adding that “this call, as well as the appointment of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, will give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.”

However, it is worth noting that China has held a neutral stance on the war between Russia and Ukraine and has not condemned any of the sides. This is because Chinese President knows that he will also face similar wrath from all over the world when he decides to invade Taiwan. Russia says that its national security has been violated by the US and NATO nations.
