Blood Money To Be Paid In Horn Of Africa

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Puntland State Government has accepted responsibility for the extrajudicial killing of Nadiro Faysal Shire whom the police shot dead in Garowe on 26th December 2020, during demonstrations against currency depreciation.

As such the government will pay ‘blood money’ to the slain girl’s family.

In a letter sent to the Puntland Finance Ministry, the Puntland Minister for Security Abdisamad Mohamed Gallan referred to a letter from Puntland Police Command to take full responsibility for the death of the teenager.

The import of the letter points to a decision by the Puntland State Government to pay blood money to the family of Nadiro Shire.

Puntland Security Minister Abdisamad Gallan wrote to the Finance Ministry about payment of blood money to the family of Nadiro Shire.

The body of Nadiro, who belonged to a marginalised Somali clan, had been in the mortuary for nine days.

The Puntland State Government has since notified the family of the deceased girl about their decision to pay the blood money.

The Office of Puntland Human Rights Defender has also called on the Government to bring the police officer who killed Nadiro to justice.
