Amidst declining birth rate, China wants to do a nationwide population survey

We know that there are many parts of the world that are facing a challenge when it comes to declining population and not just because of the fact that their people are aging but also because the birth rate of their countries is declining at a rate which is not equal to their rate of aging which means that their population is becoming older more than they are having new kids. Some of the countries that are facing this problem include Japan, US and now China is also encountering this issue in their own country. While India is seeing a birth rate that is on par or below their death rate, it is expected that India will also have to focus on their birth rate decline in the next 5-10 years or they will face a similar issue as Japan.

Now, China is reportedly taking action on its declining birth rate and have decided to conduct a nationwide survey. The report said that this survey will help provide a basis to monitor China’s population developmental changes and for the government and Communist Party to formulate national economic, social development and population related policies. Note that China only conducts their census once-in-a-decade which took place in Novmber 2020 and it showed that their population is declining. After this, the Chinese government has come into action and have decided to do a smaller census once again to understand the reasons behind this decline.

It is reported that “High childcare costs and having to stop their careers have put many women off having more children or any at all. Gender discrimination and traditional stereotypes of women caring for the children are still widespread throughout the country.” As per one report, China’s one-child policy has a lot to do with its decline in population. Because if you notice, “The one-child policy was a program in China that limited most Chinese families to one child each. It was implemented nationwide by the Chinese government in 1980, and it ended in 2016. The policy was enacted to address the growth rate of the country’s population, which the government viewed as being too rapid”.
