Bengaluru: Amazon has stepped in to help the administration of President Joe Biden in the fight against COVID-19 by offering resources and assistance in rolling out the antiviral vaccine to the masses.
TechCrunch reports that Worldwide Consumer CEO Dave Clark Congratulated Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in an official letter, while promising to assist them in reaching their goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of their administration.
The folks at TechCrunch got their hands on a copy of this letter which points out Biden’s promise to the nation when he took an oath at a press conference in December 2020.
“MY FIRST 100 DAYS WON’T END THE COVID-19 VIRUS. I CAN’T PROMISE THAT,” THE THEN-PRESIDENT-ELECT SAID. “BUT WE DID NOT GET IN THIS MESS QUICKLY, WE’RE NOT GOING TO GET OUT OF IT QUICKLY, IT’S GOING TO TAKE SOME TIME. BUT I’M ABSOLUTELY CONVINCED THAT IN 100 DAYS WE CAN CHANGE THE COURSE OF THE DISEASE AND CHANGE LIFE IN AMERICA FOR THE BETTER.”
Seconding Biden’s viewpoint, COVID-19 taskforce member and epidemiologist Micahel Osterholm reiterated the point that ramping up the COVID-19 vaccine rollout would take time as the goal seemed “too aspirational… but doable.”
Clark highlights Amazon’s proactive support in the fight against the virus by employing numerous warehouse workers to double up as essential healthcare workers, besides offering some good deals with healthcare providers who can administer the Covid-19 vaccine on-site at affordable prices.
“WE HAVE AN AGREEMENT IN PLACE WITH A LICENSED THIRD-PARTY OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH CARE PROVIDER TO ADMINISTER VACCINES ON-SITE AT OUR AMAZON FACILITIES,” CLARK WRITES. “WE ARE PREPARED TO MOVE QUICKLY ONCE VACCINES ARE AVAILABLE. ADDITIONALLY, WE ARE PREPARED TO LEVERAGE OUR OPERATIONS, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, AND COMMUNICATIONS CAPABILITIES AND EXPERTISE TO ASSIST YOUR ADMINISTRATION’S VACCINATION EFFORTS. OUR SCALE ALLOWS US TO MAKE A MEANINGFUL IMPACT IMMEDIATELY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19, AND WE STAND READY TO ASSIST YOU IN THIS EFFORT.”
