Taiwan President US visit

We knew that the visit from Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen to the US would not go without having any issues. And the same has happened now as we have come to know that clashes broke out between supporters of two groups.

It is known that one of the group was of Taiwan supporters whereas the other group was of Pro-China crowd. The clashes broke out when the Taiwan President Tsai arrived to Manhattan hotel on her arrival to the United States of America.

This is after China had requested the US government to not let Taiwan President Tsai enter the country for a “layover”. However, the US government did not accept China’s request and President Tsai has been allowed in the country for her extended layover of four nights.

When the motorcade of Taiwan President Tsai arrived at the Grand Hyatt in New York City, a scuffle ensued and the agitated Chinese protestors confronted the Taiwanese supporters. There are reports that this scuffle resulted in injury to one person and one arrest was also made.

According to a report by the Liberty Times, Taiwan President arrived at the NYC hotel by 4:30 p.m. and she was welcomed and greeted with an enthusiastic crowd showing support for Taiwan. This obviously agitated the Chinese supporters even more and they confronted Taiwan supporters.

Although it is known that the New York City police already separated the groups supporting different views, some supporters crossed the road when Taiwan President’s motorcade arrived. And they are known to have harassed the Taiwan crowd which resulted in the clashes.

It is also known that the Chinese crowd were wildly waving the Chinese flag as a sign of dissent against the Taiwan President and one video also shows that Chinese group is assaulting Taiwanese support which is when NYC Police officers arrested one person.
